OUR
MISSION
At Jonathan Markson Tennis, we aim to provide to players of all ages and
levels a rewarding and enjoyable tennis experience, where the coaching
is serious but fun in an environment that is beautiful and relaxing.
ADMINISTRATION
We offer a helpful, efficient and personal service to all
our clients and try to ensure that everyone's needs and requirements are met.
OUR COACHES
The coaches at all our centres are selected not just for their knowledge
of tennis but for their personal qualities, especially enthusiasm, patience,
sense of humour and attentiveness to individual needs.
INSTRUCTION
Our tennis courses are designed for people of all ages and playing standards
from beginners to the most advanced tournament players. The six-day and full-week courses abroad provide up to 15 hours of coaching. For long weekends, we provide up to 9 hours of coaching. In Oxford and Yorkshire , the programmes
are 30 hours in the summer. During the Easter holidays there are 25-hour programmes in Oxford and London, as well as 25-hour programmes in London during both the summer half-term and the summer holidays and also a 9 hour course in London over the August bank holiday weekend.
To ensure maximum progress and compatibility, participants are divided,
where possible, into groups according to approximate standard and age.
The courses cover systematically each tennis stroke. There is attention to fitness as well as technique, so that technical progress is underpinned by the ability to get into the right position for every shot. We also deal with the mental aspects of tennis. Participants learn how to overcome nerves and adopt
a tougher mental attitude, that ‘killer instinct’ which is
so vital to success in sport. The programme will include some competitive play for most players. Our aim is to improve players in every area whilst maintaining a high level of enjoyment.
TECHNICAL THEME
In addition to the focus on basic technique, fitness and mental attitude, attentionis given (particularly with more advanced players) to the ‘early ball technique’ practised brilliantly in the past by such illustrious players as McEnroe and Sampras and now by ‘greats’ such as Federer and the Williams sisters.
The ‘early ball technique’ is about how to make contact with the ball at an early stage of its flight. If this can be achieved, then one’s opponent has less time to prepare for the next shot. A good practitioner of the technique will make a smooth, energy-efficient, early contact with the ball and quietly dominate an opponent who is made to feel rushed and uncomfortable. The aim is to take home a more relaxed yet more authoritative game of tennis

Our clients play at the famous Ca’ del Moro Tennis Club on the Venice Lido and combine the relaxation of the Lido with the bustle and history of Venice. In Cyprus, we organise year-round tennis programmes at the luxurious Amathus Beach Hotel in historic Paphos. In Prague and Budapest, we offer long weekends and six-day stays with coaching on clay courts and accommodation in three-star and five-star hotels. In the UK our famous international camp in Oxford takes place in the summer when the ‘city of dreaming spires’ is at its most seductive.
Participants experience the delight of playing on grass courts. At Easter there is a non-residential camp on all-weather courts. Also in the UK is a residential summer camp in Yorkshire and five-day non-residential camps in London during Easter, summer half-term and summer holidays, as well as a long weekend in August.
