TENNIS AND CULTURE - THE OXFORD

EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME

Students will experience the magic of Oxford, the “city of

dreaming spires”. It is one of the most culturally enriching environments in the world. The beauty of medieval architecture mixed with luscious gardens, meadows and riverside walks takes the breath away.

Cultural tours will include visits to some of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the world. For example, Christ Church founded in 1525 by Cardinal Wolsey and attended by 14 Prime Ministers. Whether it be its splendid cathedral, medieval dining hall, its ancient cloisters, Tom Quad, a spectacular quadrangle with a fountain in the middle or its beautiful meadows that extend to the River Thames, a visit to this grandest of colleges will be an experience never to be forgotten. Every college has its own special characteristics and its own history. Our tours will include well-informed guides who will illuminate history in the most vivid way. A tour of the ancient heart of the city will take in such extraordinary sights as the Radcliffe Camera, the Sheldonian Theatre and the Bridge of Sighs. A visit to the centuries-old Botanical Gardens is also included.

Our cultural programme will also include trips to Stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Blenheim Palace, where Winston Churchill lived and London, England's capital city, home to world-famous art galleries and museums, historic landmarks including the splendours of Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Westminster.

We believe that sport and culture offers a perfect balance. This mirrors the life of so many Oxford students. The Oxford experience has always contained a strong cultural and sporting tradition. Participants in the tennis and culture programme would play tennis in the mornings (Monday to Friday) and take part in an all-day tournament on Saturdays. The afternoons, some evenings and all-day Sunday would be devoted to cultural excursions..

The tennis camp will include other activities such as punting (boating) in the river Cherwell, soccer, baseball and basketball on some evenings as well as barbecues and films. However, to experience the full range of the Oxford experience, we recommend the Tennis and Culture Programme as a key extra ingredient.

To take part in the combined tennis and culture there will be a supplement of £120 (about $250 U.S.) per week.
