FURTHER INFORMATION

Summer Camp

The tennis camp runs for 8 weeks from late June to late August. All weeks are for all ages but in the last week we have a special programme for adults who prefer to be part of a substantial adult group. The camp is both a residential and non-residential.

Easter Camp

There is also an intensive programme of tennis coaching which runs for 1 week during the Easter period. It is a non-residential tennis camp but we can recommend good and inexpensive accommodation for those who require it.

Instructors
Specially trained instructors will include internationals, tournament players and coaches of outstanding ability and also a number of Oxford "blues". Important attributes of the coaches, over and above a simple knowledge of tennis, are a sense  of fun and an ability to connect with people of all ages and standards.

Participants
The Camp caters for players of all ages, welcoming adults as well as children. Please note, however, that unaccompanied children residing in College should normally be at least 10 years of age. There is no lower age limit for non-residential participants. The Camp is designed for people of all playing standards from beginners to the most advanced. To ensure maximum progress and compatibility, participants will be divided into groups according to approximate standard and age.

Special Adult Week and Adults generally

Flee the stresses of adult life with an immersion in tennis in idyllic surroundings. All weeks are open to all ages including adults but in the last week of the camp (week 8) there is a special programme for adults who prefer to be part of a substantial adult group with separate coaching and separate activities. Adults who attend the camp in the other weeks (weeks1 – 7) and are also coached in separate groups. However, in these earlier weeks the number of adult participants is a lot less and will vary from week to week. For a more specific estimate of adult numbers in any week, it is advisable to check with us before booking.

Instruction
More than five hours of intensive tennis will be available each day from Monday to Saturday.

Facilities
30 grass and hard courts will be available for use. Participants will experience the joy of playing on luscious grass courts. The principal location will be the beautiful grounds of Christ Church, one of the most famous colleges of Oxford University. Other excellent venues in the heart of Oxford will be used from time to time if required.

Supervision
Younger participants will be supervised at all times. They will not be allowed out into town on their own unless we have written parental approval. We like to have a relaxed atmosphere but safety and security are paramount.

Non-Tennis Activities
A range of optional activities takes place in the evenings and on Sundays such as city tours, football, volleyball, softball, rounders, baseball, punting in the river, theatre and video films. Free internet access will be available. A trip to London on Sundays may be offered to older participants. Some activities may carry a small, extra charge (punting, cinema, theatre, London  trip).

English Lessons

English conversation classes are available from Monday to Friday to our overseas participants – either a 1 hour class after the day’s tennis (option A) or 2.5 hours in place of either morning or afternoon tennis (option B).

However, it is should be noted that English will be spoken throughout the day. The Camp is English-speaking. Unlike English language schools, the Camp has many British participants as well as a number of different nationalities. English will necessarily be the common language.

Sportswear, Equipment and Re-strings
We are pleased to have entered into an agreement with Elmer Cotton Sports, Oxford's famous sports shop. Clients attending the camp will qualify for a 10% discount on the price of equipment, sportswear and re-strings. Elmer Cotton is situated in Turl Street just off historic Broad Street.

Arrivals and Departures
Upon request we will meet children under the age of 18 arriving at the airports of Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City or London St Pancras train station (Eurostar). We will also accompany children on departure. There will be a charge for this service. If possible, arrivals in London should be between 12.00 hours and 16.00 hours. Departures from London should be between 13.00 hours and 17.00 hours. If arrivals and departures cannot be between these times, or if they are at different locations, we will try to assist but there may have to be an extra charge.

Insurance
Participants are strongly advised to have holiday insurance.

Welcome Drinks
All participants are invited to a welcome drinks party at 6.30 p.m. on the initial Sunday followed by dinner.
